What is a derailleur hanger and what does it do?
You may see this vital component sometimes referred to as either a derailleur hanger, gear hanger, or even a mech hanger. But, they are all one and the same. The hanger is a consumable part that secures the rear derailleur to the frame. It's designed to bend or break in the event of a crash or any impact that may otherwise cause damage to the frame itself.
This guide is intended to help you find the correct derailleur hanger for Ribble framesets that are no longer in production. As with any hanger, we would always advise you to check your existing hanger against the ones listed below to ensure the correct fitting.
1. Gran Fondo Caliper
Designed to fit Ribble various carbon frames equipped with traditional rim brake calipers, circa 2010-2016. This hanger is intended to fit the following models only:
- Gran Fondo
- Sportive 365

2. Various carbon frames circa 2010-2017
Designed to fit various carbon frames produced between 2010-2017. This hanger is compatible with the following models only:
- R872 (2017 Edition) – This frameset was the last of the 'stealth' range of R872's to be produced and can be distinguished from earlier models by virtue of it having a 27.2mm seat post diameter (earlier versions had a 31.6mm diameter seat post).
- Evo Pro Carbon 2010-2016 – The first edition of the Evo Pro featured completely round tube profiles, a visible carbon weave, 27.2mm seat post diameter and was available in Black, Red or White.

3. Ribble SC61.10A/EM2
This hanger is compatible with a range of lightweight Ribble alloy framesets manufactured from Dedacciai tubing. In terms of aesthetics, they look very similar to the 7005 (section 4) and can be distinguished via the chainstays. Frames crafted from SC61 and EM2 tubing feature box section chainstays rather than the ovalised stays of their 7005 counterparts.
Above images: The EM2 on the left was a limited edition, but it was to all intents and purposes identical to the SC61.10A Carbon Blacktail pictured on the right.
4. 7005 SL / HORIZONTAL & CARBON BLACKTAIL
This derailleur hanger is designed to fit the 7005 SL sloping frameset, 7005 horizontal and 7005 Blacktail (alloy frameset with carbon seat stays) framesets. The chainstays will be ovalised rather than a box section, differentiating them from the very similar looking SC61.10A and EM2 framesets.
Pictured above: A 7005 SL Carbon Blacktail, In terms of aesthetics, the 7005 SL is almost indistinguishable from the SC61 featured in the previous section.
5. 7005 Audax (2002-2010)
The original version of the 7005 Audax manufactured approximately between 2002-2010 featured a single bolt hanger. The 1" headtube helps distinguish this version from its replacement, which featured a 2-bolt hanger and 1 1/8" headtube.
Above Image: The 7005 Audax was a staple for dedicated cyclists looking to cycle through winter.
6. 7005 Race (Horizontal)
To the untrained eye, the 7005 Race can look almost identical to its sibling, the 7005 Audax (section 5). The only notable difference's were the 7005 Race lacked the mudguard mounts of the ubiquitous winter trainer and used a different gear hanger.
7. Pre-2016 R872 (Stealth)
Compatible with the R872 (or Stealth as it was sometimes referred to) sold between 2012 and 2016. There were three iterations of the 'stealth' version of the R872, and this 3-bolt hanger is compatible with the first two editions. The 31.6 mm diameter seat post sets these earlier versions apart from the last ever iteration, which featured a 27.2 mm seat post.
**Above Image: ** This earlier iteration of the R872 lacks the red R872 decals featured on the later version and uses a 31.6mm seat post.
